The Dartmoor Railway extends in total for 15.5 miles from Coleford Junction in the east through to Meldon Viaduct in the west following the course of the former London and South Western Railway main line between Exeter and Plymouth.

The main station at Okehampton is a beautifully restored example of a Southern Railway station and is the location of the popular Bulleid Buffet and a small museum.

Heritage trains operate between Okehampton and Meldon Viaduct with some services also running to Sampford Courtenay and Bow (no public access). These are operated by Granite Line Ltd. in association with the Dartmoor Railway Supporters' Association.
