The Way We Were 1930s - 1950s

Rural Britain going back to the 1930s and beyond; this is intended to be a celebration of rural life surrounding a county station and will include attractions such as vintage agricultural equipment, war time vehicles, displays, stalls etc. We will have people dressed in period costume, a singer giving you the feel of the era with songs like She'll be coming round the mountain and the white cliffs of Dover.
1950s Bank Holiday Weekend

Sample what life was like in the 1950s when some of our trains were new! This special event has displays, period menus in the Pullman Buffet and music to entertain you. There will also be our popular Murder Mystery Evening Land Cruise on the Saturday evening.
National Festival Circus

Roll up! Roll up! Get your tickets here! We've got the National Festival Circus coming to Bolton Abbey Station over the August Bank Holiday. What a great fun-packed event for all the family!
26/8/17 - 28/8/17 : Midland Railway - Butterley
Step back in time and experience travel as it would have been over 100 years ago as the restored vintage carriages are brought out of the museum to operate train services for visitors. In 2017 a newly restored carriage will take to the tracks for the first time, after 15 years of hard work! Volunteers will be on the trains in period costume to add to the atmosphere and answer your questions. Visitors in Victorian costume travel at half price.

Featuring GWR 1450 & BR Class 47 47205, and 3 days packed full of both passenger and freight services, it promises to be quite a weekend! So come down for a ride, or simply sit on the platform with a refreshing drink from our Platform 3 Buffet and watch our re-creation of the history of the line as a freight train goes by.
