The Nene Valley Railway runs for 7½ miles from a site close to the East Coast Main Line and Peterborough city centre, along the Nene valley, through a landscape of water meadows, country park, and arable farmland.
We are unique amongst heritage railways in the UK, in that we are able to run locomotives and carriages imported from the European Continent - our collection includes stock from Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and France, amongst others. As a result, our line is a firm favourite with film-makers and you may have seen the Nene Valley Railway featured in the James Bond films 'Octopussy' and 'Goldeneye', as well as many other productions both large and small.
The Nene Valley Railway also has an extensive collection of British locomotives and stock, and is home to the original "Thomas the Tank Engine" - named by the author himself, the Rev. W. Awdry, in 1971.
